The Sports House at Varsity Lakes marks a significant milestone for the Varsity Lakes
community and forms part of Delfin Lend Lease’s broader initiative to deliver a sport
and recreation hub for Varsity Lakes and surrounding areas.

The Sports House is an innovative joint venture between Delfin Lend Lease, Gold Coast City Council
and Varsity Lakes Community Limited (VLCL). VLCL is a not-for-profit community organisation
dedicated to ensuring community prosperity through a Board of Directors with representation from
key community stakeholder groups.
Located on the southern shores of Lake Orr, Sports House is accessed from Christine Avenue and forms
part of the South Bay mixed use precinct. Sports House will be owned by Gold Coast City Council and
managed by Delfin’s successor VLCL, ensuring it will be managed and run by the community,
for the community.
Usage

Sports House will service the immediate local and wider Gold Coast community and has been designed to
allow for uses such as:
 | |
 | Community meeting spaces, watercraft storage and training areas
 |
 | Fitness and recreation programs
 |
 | A focus on water based activity enabling community groups and clubs to easily access the
80Ha Lake Orr and its 12km of paddling routes
 |
 | A finishing point for 500 & 1,000 metre rowing and paddling routes
 |
 | A launch point for canoeing, kayaking, sailing, dragon boating and recreational craft
 |
 | Office space for community and sports-based businesses |
In excess of 10,000 people currently use Lake Orr on an annual basis for:
 | |
 | Regattas and events
 |

 |
 | Gold Coast Dragons training and events
 |

 |
This innovative new model of community infrastructure aims to enhance the quality of active participation
through sustainable sport and recreation program and events. Construction is anticipated to begin
late 2010 with a forecasted completion date of mid 2011.
How you can contribute

Businesses and residents are being given the opportunity to support this project through a fund raising
campaign. VLCL is seeking to raise $300,000 to build a community meeting and craft storage facility
at South Bay, next to the pedestrian bridge. To assist in achieving this fundraising target, VLCL have
registered the Sports House project with the Australian Sports Foundation Ltd (ASF). This enables
donations to be tax deductible.
The ASF was established by the Australian Government to assist organisations to raise funds through
public & corporate donations for the development of sport in Australia.
All contributions will be gratefully received, however donations of $500 or more will be acknowledged
with the addition of a plaque inscribed with donor names in Sports House.
